Overview

Gleb Skubachevsky (b.1989), Russian abstract artist was born and bred in Moscow, Russia now lives and works in London, UK.

Gleb’s artistic practice aligns with the philosophy of Meta modernism, seeking a balance between experimentation and precision, clarity and ambiguity. His works often appear alien, fragile, and at times, provocatively aggressive - evoking visions of alternative life forms that could one day become reality.

Gleb began to explore the possibilities of materials and the boundaries of reference, working increasingly on large-scale canvases. His practice is rooted in aesthetic experience and draws philosophical parallels with pragmatism - asserting that anything can be manifested beyond the traditional confines of art.

His early work was concerned with the origins of life, evolution, and extraterrestrial existence. Employing scientific tools such as microscopic optics, he observed microorganisms in their natural states, translating them into pictorial and sculptural “portraits” of crystals, trees, metals, and primitive life forms. These were reimagined as cosmic entities.

Deeply engaged with environmental issues, Gleb expresses his connection to nature through his choice of eco-conscious materials. He avoids plastic, instead favouring paper and other recyclable media for textural and sculptural work.
